This subject is so very timely! I was just at defender.com last night looking at heads and also at Fisheries Supply here in Seattle. My current head is what I believe to be the original. I think that even the raw water intake hose from the seacock was original because when I did a hose inspection after buying the boat I noticed that the backside of this hose was worn through to the cloth inner-liner! Geese.
Anyway, the pump for the head is not working very easily and leaks during pumping but the manufacturer is no longer in business and I can't find a rebuild kit for it. Jabsco used to make one but they discontinued it. Anyway, I would like to go electric anyway.
It seems to me that the units I have been looking at all have the motor units goion straight out the back. The ones that say they can be rotatec 90 degrees all seem to be best rotated to the left of the bowel (given where the discharge outlet is located- I would like to have this on the back) where as the manual pump toliets all the the pumps to the right of the bowl. Has anyone installed an electric head in the Baba 30?
I also have the original fiberglass holding tank for now. Steve Hodge is a big proponent of the Lectra-san and I must say this is pretty intriguing. I may very well convert to one of these later when funds permit. Too many other projects taking priority over that right now but it sure seems like a nice option.
