Hi Rick,

We've got 120' of chain and 200' of rope with a 33 lb Spade anchor. The
connections are the standard ones recommended by Earl Heinz. We haven't
used it a lot, but when we have it's worked great! No problems with the
chain-rope connection. The chain is 5/16 BBB and at 1 lb per foot, adds
quite a lot of weight. The idea of all chain is interesting, but you
have to store it on board when you're not using it. I wonder how much
chain would equal too much weight for the boat's trim.

Back to the bobstay topic; a friend once recommended using shroud covers
on the bobstay and whisker stays. I asked our rigger about this and he
said it would be fine on the whisker stays, but it should be kept off of
the swage (sp) on the lower bobstay fitting. He suggested usihng a wire
tie about 3" above the fitting. The covers would protect from mooring
lines or when deploying an anchor.
