I have a Quantuum loose footed sail and they talked me into battens and
(horrors) lazy jacks and a strong track.

Plus, I have a real rigid boom vang.

So far, I like the lazy jacks when coming into port - I like keeping my
main up as long as possible (cause I never trust the engine) and can now
drop the main in a seconds, and the lazy jacks keep the main out of the way
until I am safely docked.

The rigid vang helps as well.

I have been training the main to flake the same way each time (by virture
of green and red dots on the luff so that the person at the mast knows
which way to flake).

Offshore, I will probably not use the lazy jacks.

I do not understand the problem with battens - if one has good slides.

My rigger tried to talk me into a Leisure Furl - but, after I was told that
an electric winch would be needed, my interest was reduces somewhat.

My sailmaker said that with the strong track and lazy jacks, it would not
be much of a problem dealing with the new larger sails.

It just did not seem worth the dollars and trouble for a 30 foot boat, so,
I passed, and am happy that I did.
