A cow hitch is really just two half hitches side by side, with the
running and standing ends swapped. As I said to Cindy, the idea of one
line for a set sheets makes me very uncomfortable. As there, if the
hitch wears through... uh-oh... Worse, being only two half hitches,
this is inherently not a stable or reliable arrangement. These hitches
can be shaken out easily enough. That the folks on the Valiant got by
with it is a testament to the line's stiffness and, perhaps, a bit of
divine providence. [smile]
