Brion Toss has probably forgotten more about rigging than I will ever
know but... no way would I want to add more hardware to a clew! It's
bad enough to have the eye flailing around, but adding more hardware to
smack the boat or damage you? Pass!

If all else fails, whipping the running end of the bowline should keep
things tight and tidy.
