There are a few names for this hitch that attaches the jib sheets to the
clew by looping through the clew and back on itself. I'm trying out this
method at this time. The sailmaker called it a cow hitch. I am concerned
about a single long sheet slipping at the clew with this type of knot.
Friends of mine aboard a Valiant 42 have used it since they owned their boat
and say it has never slipped. After an entire season of being loaded up with
tension the hitch can get very tight but with a little work it can be
untied. So far, I have only one sail with the single long sheet and lanyard,
(cow) hitch and all went fine.

If you buy new sheets and purchase one long piece of rope you can give it a
try and if you don't like it you can always cut it in half and use bowlines.
