Our Raytheon R-20X is slowly losing its electronic mind. The "God's eye
TV" display is still fine but other things have failed or are failing.
The magnetron timer and all options settings (e.g., compass mode,
waypoint display, lights and display brightness) reset to defaults if
the radar is off for more than a few hours. The waypoint marker and
lat/long display become erratic after a while. This last, maybe, is due
to a flaky data connection and I'll clean up the obvious contacts and
connections to see if anything changes there. I'm not holding my breath
on this one, however...
First, does anyone else have this particular radar and has anyone seen
these problems? Second, if the radar is going to prove too expensive to
repair, I need a suggestion for a radar without all the bells and
whistles. That is, Raymarine, for example, only offers combinations
with chart plotters, fathometers, and, for all I know, coffee makers. I
want at least a 24 mile radar with only a PPI display and not some sort
of navigational money pit.
