We might be doing it wrong, but we lead our yankee sheet inside the upper stay. Otherwise, it's nearly impossible to sheet in close.

As for the sheet dragging on the coming, I noticed that many Baba 30s do not have thier winches mounted on pads. Ours are mounted to 1 1/2 inch thick pads. Our sheet still rubs on the coming, but just barely. We have a polished 'edge guard' for that area that seems to do okay.

Regarding mast rake, I'm very curious about this. My understanding (and that's not saying much) is that a masthead rig should not use adjustable backstays. Our prvious boat was a 7/8 rig and we always cranked on the backstay when close hauled. I suppose on a masthead that the mast doesn't actually bend at the top, but bulges in the middle as tightening the stay would place a compression load on the mast. Considering that, I wonder if there would be concern for the added load placed on the forestay with this arrangement.

That's not to say that mast rake couldn't be put in on a permanant basis and that sounds like what Brion is referring to. I would also think that the inner stay would play a key part in the mast rake (bend) as well.
